Batavia’s 6-foot senior middle hitter Hannah Yaconis, who plays for SPVB 18 Blue during the club season, has verbally committed to study and play at the University of Akron.

Yaconis was an all-tournament selection at the Waubonsie Valley Blast, a first-team all-Upstate Eight River Conference selection, and was voted the All Program Player of the Year at Batavia.

“I think that Hannah will do very well at the University of Akron and will be able to help them right away,” Batavia coach Lori Trippi-Payne said. “She will fit in well with the Mid-American Conference. She is a very good offensive middle, which is pretty tough to find.”

Yaconis led Batavia with 223 kills and recorded a kill percentage of 43.5 percent with a kill efficiency of .292. She had 38 digs and her 73 blocks rank seventh all-time in the program’s history.

“I am very excited for her and think she will do great things in her career as a Zip,” Trippi-Payne said. “The coaching staff is very experienced there and will be able to help her develop even more in college.”
